The FIG Working Week 2024, organised by the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) in partnership with the Licensed Surveyors Association of Ghana and the Ghana Institution of Surveyors, will take place in Accra, Ghana, from 19 to 24 May. Under theme “Your World, Our World: Resilient Environment and Sustainable Resource Management for all”, the conference will focus on how geospatial technologies and innovations became major tools in ensuring resilient environment and sustainable natural resource management for all.

In the occasion of this event, the Arab Land Initiative of the Global Land Tool Netwok and UN-Habitat is organizing and participating into two sessions, to share the lessons learned, best practices and case studies from the Arab region:

22 May (11:45am – 1:15pm GMT) -Empowering and Improving the Life of Women in Muslim Communities through increased access to Housing, Land and Property. Building on the research and conceptual frameworks developed by Global Land Tool Network and Arab Land Initiative’s partners in the past years, this session will discuss the obstacles preventing women from enjoying their legitimate Housing, Land and Property (HLP) rights, and review specific actions and entry points that proved effective in closing the gender gap in Muslim communities and Muslim-majority countries with a focus on how customary land governance and religious practices intersect in contexts of legal pluralism with regard to gender dynamics.

22 May (11:45am – 1:15pm GMT) - Fit-for-Purpose Land Administration: Cases and Impacts. This session will review and discuss best practices, case studiespolicy guides, publications and frameworks related to the implementation of Fit for Purpose Land Administration (FFPLA), an approach that has been driven and supported by FIG C7, UN-Habitat, and the World Bank for over a decade. During the session, the findings of the publication “Land Professionals in the Arab Region, Roles, capacities and contribution to land governance and land tenure security”, developed by the Arab Land Initiative will be presented and discussed by its authors.

In addition to the above, GLTN will be contributing to several sessions throughout the conference, covering various topics such as land governance, land use planning, land administration, land information and land-based financing. For more information about the sessions supported by GLTN, please click [here].
