The new issue of the Arab Urban Development Institute (AUDI)’s MUDUNUNA newsletter, developed in collaboration with the Arab Land Initiative of UN-Habitat and the Global Land Tool Network (GLTN) with the financial support of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), focuses on Land Management for Sustainable Urban Development in the Arab region. The issue includes interviews with the Mayors of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Baidoa, Somalia, as well as articles from land specialists at UN-Habitat, the University of Duhok in Iraq (Kurdistan Region) and the National Agency of Urban Renewal and Rehabilitation of Rundown Buildings in Morocco. 

The newsletter features a number of toolkits for sustainable land management, including on land-based finance for local governments, the evaluation of brownfield sites, participatory and inclusive land readjustment and understanding the climate and financial impacts of land-use decisions. Additionally, this issue features descriptions of a variety of innovative urban projects and initiatives: revolutionizing land management systems through blockchain technology in Dubai and Abu Dhabi; green belts to combat sprawl in Algiers and Tripoli; neighborhood rehabilitation and land use planning to enhance the quality of life in Tunisia and Egypt; strategic land management planning in Qena, Damietta and Baidoa; land use conversion and brownfield regeneration in Cairo, Beirut and Dubai; and taxation of vacant land as a catalyst for urban development in Saudi Arabia. News on recent AUDI activities, initiatives and events are also included in the newsletter.
