The Global Protection Cluster is organising its annual Global Protection Online Forum, from the 4th to 14th November 2024. This event brings together the Global Protection Cluster’s field coordinators, partner organizations and key stakeholders from around the world to address current and emerging protection challenges, assess the Cluster’s strategic direction and map out the upcoming year's initiatives.

This year’s Global Protection Forum is organized under the theme “Shaping the future of protection with communities at the centre”. The forum will be framed around seven sessions, each addressing a critical area of humanitarian protection. The discussions will range from on-the-ground challenges to high-level policy considerations, ensuring an inclusive approach that bridges local experiences with global strategies.

The 7 sessions are as follows:

  1. Dilemmas and Opportunities in Humanitarian Frontline Responses
Opening the Forum, this session will dive into the complexities and challenges that humanitarian workers face in frontline responses.
  2. Continuity of Protection in Humanitarian Coordination Transitions
This session will focus on strategies to maintain effective protection responses and identify key elements necessary for seamless protection during humanitarian coordination transitions.
  3. From the Ground Up: Learning from Locally-Led Efforts to Strengthen the Protection of Civilians
This session will highlight locally-led and community-based actions to protect civilians in conflict zones.
  4. Community-Led Advocacy: Self-Protection and Accountability
This session will explore how humanitarian actors can support community-led self-protection and advocacy efforts while holding duty bearers accountable.
  5. A People-Centred Approach to Protection
This session will focus on advancing a people-centred protection agenda, sharing best practices and enhancing accountability and inclusivity.
  6. Strengthening Legal Aid and Access to Justice in Humanitarian Settings
This session will introduce a new compilation of strategies to strengthen legal aid and access to justice in humanitarian settings, featuring various organizations sharing their challenges and lessons learned, particularly regarding coordination, partnerships and reaching hard-to-access populations.
  7. Housing, Land and Property: Integrating Protection for Durable Solutions
This session will explore the necessity of integrated approaches, particularly regarding housing, land and property (HLP) issues, which should be addressed across various clusters and in collaboration with communities, authorities and development and peace actors.
