Strategizing for the future: the Arab Land Initiative Reference Group gathers in Cairo
The Members of the Arab Land Initiative’s Reference Group met in Cairo, Egypt, on the 29th and 30th of May. The meeting, hosted by the League of Arab States and co-organized by UN-Habitat and UNESCWA, reviewed the status of land governance in the region, shared highlights of the work done through the Initiative, and consolidated a vision for the way forward by identifying priority areas and strengthening partnerships to enhance regional cooperation and resource mobilization.
The Reference Group provided strategic guidance to the Arab Land Initiative and contributed to its culture of continuous improvement by offering feedback and suggestions to adapt to changing circumstances and improve the Initiative’s responsiveness to the needs of regional communities. The Reference Group, composed of a mix of experts, influential figures, and representatives of institutions, organizations, and constituencies who share the vision of the Arab Land Initiative, was established in 2016 and has met annually since then to review and guide the work of the Initiative.
