Summary

On the 18-19th of October in Tunis, Tunisia, the Expert Group Meeting on land administration system in the Arab Region has been held as part of the Agreement of Cooperation funded by BMZ and signed in 2020 between UN-Habitat / Global Land Tool Network , and the Regional Center for Remote Sensing of North African States (CRTEAN).

The EGM gathered Thirty-six (36) participants from the Arab region (online and in-person) representing; land experts, policymakers, legal experts, land surveyors, private sector representatives, land evaluation experts, Academia, Civil society organizations, UN agencies and various local and regional stakeholders from eleven countries from Arab region.

During the two-day event, the EGM was an open discussion and knowledge sharing platform about land administration systems, approach, guidelines, and tools to improve land administration in the Arab region. The EGM focused on the following topics 1) The current situation of land governance and land administration system in the Arab region, 2) Understanding, building and implementing the Fit-For-Purpose land administration approach and Framework. 3) The impact of the Fit-For-Purpose land administration systems on the security of Tenure for everyone and particularly on Women and vulnerable groups.

The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss the available data and the current status of the land management and administration system in the region, which will allow better understanding of the needs and identify the gaps in the existing systems and develop the capacities of the land expert on FFP land administration tools through the upcoming training that will be organized by CRTEAN.
