Summary
UN-Habitat, the Global Land Tool Network, the United Nations System Staff College and the Global Housing, Land, and Property (HLP) Area of Responsibility of the Global Protection Cluster conducted a course on HLP rights and conflict-sensitive land governance for peacebuilding on the 26 – 29 September 2022 in Cairo, Egypt
The course is been designed for project managers, technical personnel from national and local governments, human rights and protection officers, humanitarian coordinators, and any other professional or practitioner involved directly or indirectly in development and humanitarian interventions with components on land governance and housing, land and property rights in contexts that are fragile, affected by conflict or disaster or that are fast-changing.
The main goal is to train programme managers and field personnel on the main concepts and practices supporting the protection of Housing, Land and Property (HLP) Rights and the implementation of good land governance interventions as key cornerstones for peacebuilding, sustainable development and the overall achievement of human rights of affected populations.
Participants were able to better design and implement strategies and programmes that have HLP and land governance components. They better understood how to address HLP and land governance along the conflict cycle, from conflict prevention, to mitigation, early recovery and reconstruction. They were able to use practical tools and approaches to address HLP challenges at the field level.
